The Eric Morecambe statue

As a tribute to Eric, in 1999 the Queen unveiled the iconic Eric Morecambe statue. Positioned at the top of stone steps in a purpose-built circle surrounded by flower beds. The 6′ 6″ statue is cast in bronze and was created by sculptor Graham Ibbesson. The statue depicts Eric Morecambe in one of his well-known poses with a pair of binoculars around his neck as he was a keen birdwatcher. Set against the stunning backdrop of Morecambe Bay and the Lake District hills, hundreds of people queue to have their photo taken alongside the statue.  On the floor you can read various messages, from the famous guests on the Morecambe & Wise show to key words like `RUBBISH` and the words from their famous sing, Bring me Sunshine`. The statue and the area below is well lit at night making it a perfect place for evening strolls and night photography.
