Morecambe Winter Gardens, a Grade II* Listed Building

Retaining many of its stunning, original Victorian features, including a fantastic mosaic tiled floor, and marble steps leading to the impressive auditorium. The building is one of just six per cent of listed properties of its kind. The Theatre is on the Theatre’s Trust’s Theatres at Risk Register.

The Friends of The Winter Gardens, Morecambe

The Winter Gardens closed in the 1970s and much of the building was demolished in 1978. The Theatre closed in 1977 but has survived due to its Listed Status and the work of the The Friends of The Winter Gardens who have worked to protect the building and campaigned for its restoration. In 2006 they formed a Trust called the Morecambe Winter Gardens Preservation Trust Limited, who in February the same year purchased the building and began restoration work, although there is still a long way to go.
